Watches and Wonders is a big event—there is no denying that. Brand after brand competing for your attention; how are you meant to keep up with it all? Well, have no fear, Watchfinder is here! In this article, we break down the latest Rolexwatches.
Explorer
Rolex has taken the Explorer back to its roots for 2021. It has been slimmed back down to 36mm—from the most recent model's 39mm. Looks-wise, other than the aforementioned diet and the introduction of a two-tone yellow gold model—the explorer is relatively the same watch. It still has the same highly legible dial, robust Oystersteel case and bracelet fans of the watch have come to love.
It's only when you open the watch up, do you see the biggest change for this release: the addition of the Calibre 3230. The automatic 3230 debuted last year in the no-date Submariner and the Oyster Perpetual line. It features a 70-hour power reserve, a 28,800 vph beat rate and the Chronergy escapement—which is much more energy-efficient than previous Rolex escapements and is anti-magnetic thanks to its nickel-phosphorus construction.
Explorer II
It’s the same...
I kid. Although this watch has fewer changes than last year’s Submariner, that isn’t to say it isn’t new. It might have an almost identical 42mm steel case and bracelet with the option of either a black or white orange-handed dial, but what has changed—like the Explorer—lies beneath.
The Explorer II now boasts the Calibre 3285. The 3285 can be found within the newest watches in the GMT-Master range and features a GMT function—allowing you to track the time in multiple time-zones—a date, that oh-so-handy Chronergy escapement I mentioned above and a power reserve of 70 hours—all pretty handy features for say, an explorer, huh?
They might not be the biggest changes, but I’m glad that Rolex has implemented them. Because at the end of the day, who doesn’t want their watch to last longer while being more accurate and resilient?
Cosmograph Daytona
Featuring the famed Meteorite dial—inspired by an asteroid—this updated Cosmograph Daytona boasts three new versions, including 18-karat yellow gold with an Oyster bracelet, 18-karat white gold with a Cerachrom bezel and Oyster Flex bracelet, and an 18-karat Everose gold equipped with an Oyster bracelet—there’s certainly something for everyone in this range.
Datejust 36
The updated Datejust 36 adds colour to the collection with its selection of two new dials—the Palm motif and Fluted motif dial, both coming in three different colour combinations. You can even choose from a domed or fluted bezel, fitted with either an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet—perfect for the fashionistas out there, where customisation is key.
Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36
This new release is a first for the range, coming in matching Alligator staps and enamel hour markers in three vibrant shades. Colours include, coral, turquoise and burgundy and come with either an 18-karat yellow, white or Everose gold bracelet. Each piece is set with 254 cut diamonds—with an entirely pavé diamond dial—this piece certainly isn’t short of style and bling.
Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust
This lavish statement piece hosts 1,089 diamonds—a first for the model. That’s 44 cut diamonds on the bezel, 158 on the case, sides and lugs and 596 on the President bracelet—plus, the dial is entirely pavé with 291 diamonds. Available in both 18-karat yellow and white gold versions, this is the ultimate showstopper piece indeed.
